COLP - Williamson County Clerk Amanda Barnes doesn't know if it has ever happened before that a city or village race ended in a tie. At least not under her watch.

But such was the case Tuesday night when Tammy O'Daniell and Bryan Riekena each totaled 11 votes for the office of mayor, or to be specific, village president of Colp.

Barnes said the tie will be broken with a coin flip on April 20 at the courthouse.

O'Daniell, who has served as village clerk since 2009, said she will honor the coin flip.

"It's different, but fine with me," she said. "You have to respect the way things have always been done."

O'Daniell said she chose to run for the president's position because she cares about the community and also to honor her father, Dewey, who passed away while holding the office three years ago.

Delbert Spiller has served as interim village president, but chose not to run for office.

Repeated attempts to reach Riekena proved unsuccessful Wednesday.
