Barbara Nell Stover

NORMAL - Barbara Nell Stover, 86, formerly of Marion, passed away Saturday (Sept. 24, 2016) at Sugar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Normal after an eight year battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 1, from 9 to 11 am at Reed Funeral Chapel, 503 East Sloan St., Harrisburg, IL, followed by internment at Sunset Lawn Cemetery, Harrisburg, IL. Her brother Larry Durfee will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/Barb_Stover.

Barbara was born Jan. 19, 1930, in Harrisburg, to Lewis and Opal (Sloan) Durfee. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Michael and Lewis, Jr.

Barbara is survived by her sons Jeff (Jean) Stover, Bloomington, and Doug Stover, Normal; brother Larry (Caroline) Durfee, Harrisburg; sisters Vivian Williams, Santa Fe, TX; June (Andy) Cserny, Raleigh; Pat (George) Wright, Harrisburg; Janet Masinelli, Dickinson, TX; and grandchildren Brandon (Emily) Stover, Princeton; Amanda (Nick) Jaworskyj, Hanover Park; and Brittany Stover, Bloomington.

After graduation from Harrisburg High School and Alton Memorial School of Nursing, Barbara began a long career working at Harrisburg and Marion Hospitals. She finished her career as an operating room supervisor.

Barbara loved her family and most of all her grandchildren. She was active in the church. She also loved to travel, enjoy time with her many dogs and was an accomplished painter.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Sugar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center for their tender and attentive care during her five year stay at their facility. They would also like to thank the hospice caregivers from Community Hospices of America for assisting with Barbara's care during the last few months.
