Robert "Michael" Brazier

Robert "Michael" Brazier, 56, of Westville, Ill., formerly of Shawneetown, went home to be with The Lord on Friday, July 15, 2016. He was battling lung cancer and succumbed to a fatal heart attack late that evening at the Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Mike was born on July 20, 1959 in Moline to Robert L. "Bob" and Mary C. "Connie Porter" Brazier. He was the only son and was followed by a sister, Tammy, nine years later. Mike was a proud member of the armed forces and served two years in the United States Army. Afterwards, he worked for Peabody Coal Company and was also employed by Pepsi-Cola in Marion before becoming disabled in 1983. Although a resident of Southern Illinois for most of his life, he resided in Westville. Prior to his death, he volunteered his time at the VA Medical Center in Westville, as his way to "give back" to those who also had served their country. Michael was a grandson to the late Gus and Mary "Cozean" Brazier and Charles and Mary C. Porter, all of Shawneetown. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Louis "Bob" Brazier, and uncle, Donald Brazier, on his paternal side and several loving aunts, uncles and cousins, on his maternal side. He was also preceded in death by his first nephew and namesake, Christopher Michael Poore in 1991. He is survived by his mother, Connie Brazier of Marion; his sister Tammy & (Larry) Mulvey of Shawneetown; niece Katie Dawn Poore of Harrisburg; and nephew Terry & (Jessica) Poore, also of Harrisburg. Mike has been brought home to be laid to rest near family at Westwood Cemetery with a private ceremony to be determined at a later date. Anyone wishing to remember Mike may do so by donating an "In Honor Gift" to the Wounded Warrior Project, a military and veterans charity organization empowering wounded veterans and their families.
