Poshard Foundation raises grant amounts to $100,000

After announcing that 29 Southern Illinois groups would receive grants for their work with children, the Poshard Foundation for Abused Children announced that they would be raising the level of grants from $70,000 to $100,000.

In a press release, the foundation stated that the decision to raise the amount of the grants was made due to the state of Illinois' ongoing budget crisis.

CASA of Saline County and Mentors4Kids of Harrisburg are two of the groups that will receive grants from the foundation.

The Poshard Foundation was founded in 2000, and is a public charitable organization that provides funding for children in crisis, such as car seats, counseling, or special medical equipment for the medical examination of sexually abused children.

"Child abuse is on the rise in Southern Illinois," co-founder Jo Poshard said. "Proceeds from the 2015 Poshard Foundation Brunch made these grants possible, we are very grateful to each of our donors."

The Poshard Foundation, located out of John A. Logan College, will present the 29 organizations with their grants during a press conference in the Board Conference Room at John A. Logan College at 1 p.m. on Friday.
