Two local churches join together to strengthen their cause.

Following a short courtship of four months, a special wedding was held Jan. 31 at the College Heights Church.

Calvary Baptist and College Heights had previously voted to begin a new ministry together with Russell Helton as pastor.

"This is the beginning of something great," said Helton. "There is strength in numbers."

Using the wedding ceremony with a few changes, the two bodies in Christ were joined as one. Invitations had been given and pictures were taken prior to the union.

The two churches have now officially become one.

Charges were given to the deacon and trustee committees and also to the congregation by pastor Helton and the union ended with everyone present joining hands in prayer.

Calvary Baptist, the church that was dissolved to become part of College Heights, was founded on June 24,1926 during a special meeting at the Eldorado City Hall. The building in which the congregation of Calvary Baptist met was erected on June 3, 1928.

"Everyone was reminded of the first paragraph of the church covenant which reads 'Having been led as we believe by the spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior and upon the profession of our faith, we do now in the presence of God and this assembly join together as one body in Christ," Helton said.

The now combined services will be held at the College Heights Baptist Church located at 2321 North Illinois Ave. in Eldorado.
