IYC inmate charged in adult felony case.

A brash of attacks have taken place over the last year at the Illinois Youth Correctional facility in Harrisburg.

In recent events Kameron R. Moore, 18, of Rock Island, was tried in Saline County Circuit Court on a charge of aggravated battery toward a correctional officer, which is a class 2 felony. Because Moore was 18 at the time of the incident, he was tried as an adult.

"There have been a good number of cases reported of inmates kicking, punching, and spitting and acting violently toward the officers," said Jayson Clark, Assistant State's Attorney.

Clark says that there are a great deal of cases where the inmates receive very little punishment within the facility for their violent actions.

"They don't even handcuff them," Clark said.

In this specific incident Moore and another inmate began to pick a fight with a third inmate. Officer Jacob Miller stepped in to separate the boys and stop the fight.

Clark says that Moore then told Miller to move out of the way and if he didn't he was going to start beating staff. Miller refused and Moore turned his attack toward the officer.

The investigation of Moore's case was led by Officer Nathan Moore of the Harrisburg Police department. Assistant State's Attorney, Jayson Clark handled the successful prosecution of the case, including trying the case before the jury.

Kameron Moore was found guilty of Aggravated Battery and is Scheduled to be sentenced on March 16, 2016
