Court: Woman charged in fowl case.

A local woman faces charges in Saline County Circuit Court for transporting and processing meat without a license.

Qiao Yang, 44, 124 South Webster Street in Harrisburg, is accused of the unlawful transport of poultry products and operating an establishment without a license.

The incident happened in November, but no charges were filed until last week.

According to the official complaint, Yang transported poultry products on Oct. 9 that the Illinois Department of Agriculture or the U.S. Department of Agriculture had not inspected, while knowing that the processed poultry was intended for human consumption.

Yang, who has taken up residence in the old Malan Junior High School building, has been processing poultry and delivering it to establishments to be sold to the public.

The complaint against Yang adds that she was or is operating an establishment without a license and has slaughtered poultry for resale without first securing a license from the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

According to court documents a warrant was issued for Yang's arrest on Jan. 8 and was then quashed due to an incorrect spelling of the defendants name. Another, corrected, warrant has been issued.

No other information is available at this time, but the investigation continues.
