DAR Daughters bring cheer to Shawnee Rose Care Center

Give a "Little" American Spirit

If you have a history buff in your family, here is a great idea for a Christmas gift. The Daughters of the American Revolution magazine, the American Spirit, is a thoughtful gift that will provide an entire year of enjoyment for anyone interested in American history, preservation and genealogy.

At only $18 for a one-year subscription, this beautifully illustrated and well-written publication is both a thoughtful gift and a great value. You can subscribe on line at www.dar.org/americanspirit.

And remember to fly the American Flag on Christmas Day.

Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization founded to continue to expand the annual wreath laying ceremony begun at Arlington National Cemetery by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. The mission of the organization, "Remember, Honor, and

Teach," is carried out in part by coordinating wreath laying over all 50 states. Saturday, Dec. 15, wreaths in our area will be laid at the Mound City National Cemetery.

This is one way to honor and respect the memories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and for the freedoms we enjoy today. The Michael Hillegas DAR chapter donated wreaths again this year as one of their veteran and patriot projects.

Branch out!

With the help of DAR genealogists, it is easier than ever to trace your family roots. They have access to records that you do not. We all have stories to tell in our families, but sometimes we have to dig really deep to complete our lines. While we might just call relatives, look in old Bibles, or check obituaries, other resources are available. If you are interested in joining DAR, we encourage you to contact the Michael Hillegas DAR chapter Registrar Christy Short (618) 272-4091 for more information. She will be happy to help you locate the necessary information.

Merry Christmas!

It is so easy to get caught up in holiday activities, we forget about the real meaning of Christmas. Put on some Christmas music, get out your holiday potpourri and make some holiday candy or cookies and have wonderful aromas wafting through your home. Michael Hillegas Daughters wish you and yours a joyous holiday season filled with the love and laughter of family and friends.
