• Magic Treehouse Book Club: 4-5 p.m., Harrisburg District Library, 2 W. Walnut St., Harrisburg. Join Miss Emily in reading and discussing the Magic Treehouse books. • 'Phantom of the Opera' silent film screening: 7:30-9:30 p.m. at The Varsity Center in Carbondale. The original telling of the tale as a 1925 silent film, with the band The Invincible Czars accompanying the film live with their own soundtrack. thevarsitycenter.org.

• Haunted Hayride: 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Town Park in Carrier Mills. 20-minute hayride with plenty of scares for all ages. Concession stand. $5 per person. Hosted by Carrier Mills Wildcats Junior Class After Prom Fundraiser.

Saturday, Oct. 27

• Ten-Family Rummage Sale: 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Town & Country Lions Club, 1400 S. Main St. #A, Harrisburg. Bassinets, strollers, playpens, car seats, bouncy seats, Bumbo seats; infant clothing newborn to 5T; women/men's clothes small to 3x; household items, toys, games, jewelry, furniture, crafts; cleaning supplies and more.

• Wiener Roast, Games and Fun: 4 p.m. at Highview Baptist Church, 784 Feazel Road, Harrisburg. Info: (618) 383-1265.

• Eldorado Trick or Treat: Official trick-or-treating hours are 5-7 p.m.

• Eldorado Trunk or Treat: 5-7 p.m. on Locust Street, Eldorado. Hosted by Legence Bank. With spooky booths and lots of candy.

• Eldorado Woman's Club Costume Contest: 5 p.m. in front of the Town and Country Stage. Prizes given for best costume, all ages. All participants get a treat bag.

• Eldorado Baptist Trunk or Treat: 5-7 p.m. Eldorado First Baptist Church, 1101 2nd St., Eldorado. Fun, food, music and candy. Free.

• Pankeyville Baptist Church Men's Prayer Breakfast: 8 a.m. at Pankeyville Baptist Church. This will be the last men's prayer breakfast of the year. As a "thank you," wives are invited to this breakfast in honor of their support.

• St. Mary's Fall Market: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 1158 2nd St., Eldorado. Crafters and vendors. and the ladies of the church will serve lunch and baked goods.

• Kincaid Mounds Archaeology Field Day: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Kincaid Mounds, 10 miles east of Brookport. Presentations on the Mississippian culture and results of excavations by the SIU-Summer Field Schools at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Artifact displays, information tables and a walking tour to Mound 8. • Cooking for Adults: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Eldorado Memorial Public Library District, 1001 Grant St., Eldorado. U of I Extension's Robin Johnston leads this hands-on cooking program, with easy and fun nutritious meals and snacks.

Wednesday, Oct. 31

• Harrisburg Trick-or-Treating: Official trick-or-treating hours are 5 to 7 p.m.

• Fall Festival: 6-8 p.m. at Little Chapel Church, 3859 Highway 34 North, Harrisburg. Carnival games, hayrides, inflatables, fall treats, face painting, barrel rides and a chili cookoff.

• Dark Hour Haunted House: 6-10 p.m. at 701 N. Commercial St., Harrisburg. $5.

• Harrisburg 'Track or Treat': 5-7 p.m. at Taylor Field, Harrisburg. Churches, small businesses and civic organizations will pass out candy to trick or treaters. Tables set up all around the track, lots of parking, and good lighting. Free.
