Eldorado Garden Study Club looks at saving monarch butterflies

To celebrate Earth Day, the Eldorado Garden Study Club provided an informative display at the Eldorado Memorial Library entitled "Celebrating Monarchs."

Janet Bixler, project chairwoman, in cooperation with the library staff, included numerous books, photographs and pamphlets to inform the public about ways to encourage the growth of our declining monarch population, such as growing and maintaining a pollinator garden, which is a part of the National Garden Club's project for 2018.

Information is also available on growing gardens with host plants, such as milkweed, and nectar plants for the monarch, which aligns with the Garden Clubs of Illinois' 2018 emphasis.
