General Cable helped those in need during holiday season

Associates with General Cable in Du Quoin were busy helping those in need throughout the fourth quarter of 2017.

During October and November, employees raised $2,000 that went toward the purchase and donation of 100 winter coats for area children. In November, employees also organized a drive to help with Christmas for the Murphysboro Youth Home, raising $1,965.

During the holiday months of November and December, General Cable employees worked with schools in six area communities to provide warm clothes and toys for nine area families.

With a goal of $2,500, nine teams of 20 General Cable employees surpassed their goal in raising $4,800, adding two schools and helping two families with groceries and cleaning supplies and bought and wrapped Christmas gifts for 30 children.

At the annual company Christmas party, employees raised another $835 for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. A news release from the company also stated that employees recently received a call from the Du Quoin Police Department about another family in need and were able to raise $100 for that family

"(Tuesday), our first day back to work, we received a phone call from the local Head Start looking for a coat for a little boy who had none on this very cold day," said General Cable representative Taylor Sherrie. "Within an hour, we had purchased coat, gloves, and a Batman scarf for this little tyke and delivered them to Head Start."
