Finnie hosting supplies drive to benefit women's shelter

To highlight Domestic Violence Awareness Month, state Rep. Natalie Phelps Finnie, D-Elizabethtown, is hosting a supplies drive to benefit The Women's Center, a crisis shelter that serves Southern Illinois survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

"Unfortunately, the budget impasse heavily impacted The Women's Center, and they came dangerously close to shutting their doors for good," Finnie said. "To help highlight Domestic Violence Awareness month, I am asking local residents to donate supplies to help relieve some of the burden The Women's Center has been feeling, even despite the end of the budget stalemate."

Finnie has requested donations of the following items: diapers of all sizes, baby wipes, pacifiers, baby bottles, baby food, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, bars of soap, shampoo and conditioner, combs, brushes, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, large garbage bags and backpacks.

Donations can be brought to Finnie's constituent service office at 607 S. Commercial St. in Harrisburg from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Finnie represents all or portions of the following counties: Alexander, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, Saline and Union.

For more information, call Finnie's office at (618) 253-4189 or email to RepPhelpsFinnie@gmail.com.
