Pet of the Week: Max and Smudges run the house

Harrisburg native Candy Myers owns two dogs, Max and Smudges. But, sometimes, Candy says it seems like they own her, and they're the masters of the house.

Smudges, a Shih Tzu, will turn 12 in October. Her previous owner could no longer care for her, so Candy adopted her.

Max, a Beagle mix, is 7 and was rescued from a local shelter by Candy's son, Tyler. When her son moved into an apartment on the West coast, Max stayed in southern Illinois.

Candy, who now lives in Carbondale, describes Smudges as sweet and loving and Max as a glutton for attention.
