Michael Hillegas Chapter NSDAR receives state honors

The Michael Hillegas Chapter NSDAR received several certificates of awards at the 121st State Conference of the Illinois State Organization National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently in Bloomington.

Illinois Daughters were honored to have Gov. Bruce Rauner bring greetings.

Three highly coveted state awards received by the Michael Hillegas Chapter were for Outstanding Efforts for Constitution Week, Public Relations and Media, and Activities in Support of Veterans.

The Constitution Week Report also won at the North Central Division level and has been sent on to the NSDAR in Washington for further competition.

Chapter awards for outstanding chapter activities were also received for DAR Project Patriot, Flag Event, and 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Number of Veterans Honored.

Two chapter members, who serve in other capacities in the Illinois State Organization NSDAR, presented reports during the business meeting. District VII Director Sharon Pyle reported on activities accomplished by District VII chapters during 2016. State Americanism Chairman Sharon L. Tanner prepared an Americanism display and reported all patriotic accomplishments completed by DAR daughters throughout Illinois last year.

A memorial service, "A Tribute to Departed Illinois Daughters," was also held at the conference. Michael Hillegas members, who were honored, included Lena Jackson Roper, Hazel Nora Furlong Duncan, Katherine Elizabeth Putnam, Mary Lee Wilson Howle and Elizabeth Lee Eubanks Barnett.
