Harrisburg Kiwanis hear about New Hope Christian Academy

The Harrisburg Kiwanis held its weekly meeting at Ponderosa on July 12. Guest speaker was Lisa Miles, principal at New Hope Christian Academy.

The First Church of God in Harrisburg offered the school housing for the 2012 academic year, so the academy was moved from Equality to the current McHaney Street. location in Harrisburg.

Miles indicated that the organization has submitted a bid for a piece of property to build on. She then gave a review of the Bible based curricula used at the school, explaining that Bible class is scheduled every day. In addition, all students are evaluated and classes then geared to their specific level within a particular grade.

Several extracurricular activities are offered, such as cheerleading, basketball, choir, band and poetry.

Many of the academy's activities are coordinated with home schooled children. Current enrollment is 50 with students from kindergarten through the 9th grade, although the school is capable of teaching K-12.

All of the students read at or above their grade level.

The school is funded completely through tuition and fundraising, receiving no money from the state.
