Whitfield tells Kiwanis Club about Habitat for Humanity

The Rev. Dan Whitfield, past president of Williamson County Habitat for Humanity and a Kiwanis member, presented a program about Habitat for Humanity at the weekly Harrisburg Kiwanis meeting on June 21.

Habitat for Humanity builds homes for individuals and families who meet the following requirements, according to Whitfield. They must be living in substandard dwellings, they must be able to pay for the no interest/no down payment loan held by Habitat, and they must be willing to work at least 200 hours on the construction of the home.

Each home is approximately 12,000 square feet and completed with all volunteer help at a cost of between $25,000 and $30,000, Whitfield said. Also, he pointed out that the new homeowners receive instruction on how to care for the home, as well as budgeting, so they can pay for the home.

There are more than 1 million Habitat homes in over 80 countries, Whitfield added.
