DAR welcomes new American citizens

The Michael Hillegas Chapter, NSDAR, recently participated in a naturalization ceremony conducted by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

Candidates from all over the world met at SIU School of Law Library to officially become American citizens. The Honorable J. Phil Gilbert administered the oath of allegiance to 49 candidates.

After the new American citizens received their certificates, DAR members welcomed them individually and presented each one with an American flag and a flag code leaflet.

DAR members attending the ceremony were Flag Chairman Candy Duncan Evans, Regent Kathy R. Morris, Vice Regent Sharon L. Tanner, District VII Director/Chaplain Sharon Pyle and Registar Janice Hall.
