Spring Paper Clover Campaign kicks off

Weekly column by Kathryn Scates, program coordinator for 4-H youth and development, serving Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Pope, Saline and White counties

The Spring Paper Clover Campaign, held in conjunction with Tractor Supply Company (TSC) and National 4-H Council, kicked off Wednesday April 26, and runs through May 7. During that time, patrons may make contributions to their local 4-H programs at any Illinois TSC store. The campaign runs twice a year, spring and fall. Last fall, more than $900,000 was raised nationwide for 4-H.

"Help Us Grow 4-H Out Here" by donating $1 at checkout to the Paper Clover Campaign. While our nearest Tractor Supply is in Harrisburg, funds raised also benefit youth in Gallatin County and others within our six-county unit. Donations will help area youth go to 4-H camp and attend other leadership opportunities. One of the greatest aspects of 4-H is the wide range of leadership activities available to youth at the county, regional and state level. Members are given the opportunity to develop leadership skills and practice them.

TSC just launched a new site aimed at making it easier for 4-H and FFA members to get the show supplies they need (www.TractorSupply.com/Show). They will be sharing promo codes and discounts especially for 4-H'ers, so please check out this site if you have a livestock or horse kid. All supplies are shipped for free to your local store. That's pretty darn handy! There are various sweepstakes opportunities as well.

Don't forget about upcoming camp opportunities! Southern Illinois 4-H camp and Illini Summer Academies are filling up fast. These are amazing opportunities to try new things and meet new people with shared interests. If you have any questions about 4-H or any upcoming events, please contact Kassy Scates at the Gallatin County Extension office located at 216 S. Murphy in Ridgway. Call 618-272-3022, email kscates@illinois.edu or check out the Gallatin County Illinois 4-H Facebook group.
