While it probably won’t carry the high profile of the television versions of CSI, Harrisburg residents will soon be able to point out we have Harrisburg CSI.

On Thursday evening, Harrisburg City Council gave its stamp of approval on use of a portion of the basement of City Hall as a crime scene investigations office for the Illinois State Police.

According to Harrisburg Police Chief Bob Smith, who worked out details with Illinois State Police, Harrisburg CSI will be manned by the State Police on the second shift to provide crime-scene services for the area.

While manned on the 4 p.m. to midnight shift, the CSI investigator assigned here also will be subject to call-out whenever  needed, Smith said.

The State Police will have access to only a portion of City Hall, Smith said. The area will contain an office, storage area and a secured room for temporary storage of crime scene evidence, he said.
