Thefts of copper continue throughout Saline County
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Saline County Sheriff's Deputies continue to investigate several thefts of copper, metal and other items.
The most recent report came Wednesday from a work site in the south part of the county.
Sheriff Keith Brown said deputies investigated a report of theft of copper and batteries.
Brown asks people not to confront suspicious people in these areas, but to report suspicious activity.
"If they can write down license plate numbers, any information can help us with the number of thefts that continue," Brown said.
Among other thefts in recent days, Willard Brown reported Aug. 17 to Deputy Mike Casteel sometime over the previous two weeks someone had stolen a boat motor stored in the front seat of a motor home in his yard at 325 Hargrave Road in the Muddy area, according to a sheriff's report.
Todd Bittle reported someone between the afternoon of Aug. 21 and afternoon of Aug. 22 took copper wire from a vacant house at 1075 Shawnee Hills Road, according to a report.
The house was under construction and the wiring was removed for remodeling and stored in the basement.
Bittle said he left the house 3 p.m. Aug. 21 and returned to find it gone. There was no forced entry. The copper was 12-2 wire in assorted lengths.
Calvin Stone Aug. 23 reported someone the night before had stolen a Black and Decker reciprocating saw and a Makita angle saw from his shed at 65 Ledford School Road, according to a report.
A neighbor reported hearing a loud vehicle at 3:30 a.m., according to the report.
