The Saline County Tourism Board has produced a new brochure for the scenic and historic attractions of southeastern Illinois, the region the board has branded "Garden of the Gods Country."
Featuring a collage of scenery and contact information on area festivals on one side and a map of attractions on the other, Tourism Board Member John O'Dell is satisfied the brochure can get visitors on the right track to enjoy the region.
"I'm really pleased with it. We did it because we needed to prepare for the 2016 event with the Camel Rock representation on the quarter," O'Dell said.
If information changes, those changes can be made to the board's Web site at http://www.shawneetourism.com.
The three trails of Tunnel Hill State Trail, Trail of Tears and River to River Trail are featured on the brochure as are well-known and not-so-well-known attractions. Garden of the Gods, Bell Smith Springs and Pounds Hollow Recreation Area share space with Knights of the Golden Circle, Hicks Dome, the Lakeview Ponds Settlement and the planned, but never built, city of America.
Anyone who wants to pick up the brochures to help distribute them make pick them up at the Saline Creek Pioneer Village and Museum at 1600 S. Feazel St., Harrisburg most afternoons except Monday when the museum is not staffed. They may also be shipped if people call (618) 253-8910.
