DU QUOIN -- A local bar owner -- Michelle Mercer of Backwater Pub and Grub in Du Quoin -- donated her space last week to a fundraiser for the Perry County Humane Society.

In fact, she not only donated the space, but also soft drinks and pizza. Helping to plan the event entitled, "Paint Your Pooch or other Furry Friend" was Shawna Williams, formerly of Pinckneyville.

Pet owners were encouraged to purchase a ticket, come to the bar and paint a portrait of their pet.

The event was so well attended that a second such fundraiser has been added for June 20 at the Twisted Pair bar owned by Jim Keller in downtown Du Quoin. Sandwiches will be provided by Baked on Division, fruit, veggies and soft drinks will be furnished as part of the overall ticket cost.
