Northern lights could be visible in Southern Illinois

The solar flare that happened Sunday could cause northern lights -- aurora borealis -- by tonight.

A few months ago northern lights were visible in Gallatin County and in many other spots throughout the midwest. The lights were described to me as an orange glow in the sky in the direction of Kentucky.

I've personally only seen the northern lights once and they appeared as bright white fluffy clouds on a moonless night. The sight confused me for a while until I learned later the northern lights were out.

There are videos and explanation of the solar flares and galleries of northern lights at this Web site.
