State Rep. Brandon Phelps, D-Harrisburg, received a couple of new committee assignments last week. Phelps was appointed to the Clean Coal Review Board and to the House Public Utilities Committee.
The Clean Coal Review Board oversees development of projects stemming from a $25 million grant to Southern Illinois University from Commonwealth Edison, the utility primarily serving Chicago.
Phelps will be vice-chairman of the Public Utilities Committee, replacing state Rep. Dan Reitz, D-Steeleville, who recently retired from the General Assembly.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve on this new committee not only as a member, but the new vice-chair,” Phelps said in a news release. “I am committed to improving our community’s electric rates by working hard on this committee with other legislators from both sides of the aisle. It is going to take everyone working together and putting politics aside to do the work we need to do.”
Phelps also serves as chairman of the Financial Institutions Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Armed Forces and Military Affairs Committee, and as a member of the Labor, Agriculture and Conservation, Telecommunications, Environment and Energy, Health Care Licenses and Veterans' Affairs committees
