Raymond Louis Scherrer, of Shawneetown

<p class="x_MsoNormal">SHAWNEETOWN &#8211; Raymond Louis Scherrer, 76, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, in Ridgway Rehab and Nursing Center.

<p class="x_MsoNormal">Raymond was born Feb. 22, 1940, in Harrisburg to L. Bernard and Catherine Adell (Riley) Scherrer, who preceded him in death.

<p class="x_MsoNormal">He married the former Delores Rider on Dec. 26, 1966, and they had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

<p class="x_MsoNormal">Raymond was a U.S. Army veteran, member of St. Kateri Catholic Church and fourth degree with the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of L.A. Lambert Council 1581 and Shawneetown Lions Club.

<p class="x_MsoNormal">Raymond was a corrections officer at IYC, a coal miner and a teacher at Shawneetown High School.

<p class="x_MsoNormal">Survivors include his wife, Delores Scherrer of Shawneetown; daughter, Angela Rae and Bill Watson of Shawneetown; two sons, Daniel Raymond and Karen Scherrer of Glendale, California, and Joseph David and Karen Scherrer of O'Fallon; three sisters, Mary L. Hall of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, Janet S. and Bill Butler of Uniontown, Kentucky, and Norma C. and Marvin Phillips of Hurst, Texas; brother, Charles E. and Jane Scherrer of Newburgh, Indiana; and five grandchildren, Jacob and Anna Watson, Nathan and Luke Scherrer and Julia Scherrer.

<p class="x_MsoNormal">Raymond enjoyed spending time with family and friends and his time on the family farm.

<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_1863_1995" tabindex="0">Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown with Father Steven Beatty officiating.</span> Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, near Ridgway, with military rites by Ridgway American Legion 596. <span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_2106_2223" tabindex="0">Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. </span><span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_2106_2223" tabindex="0">Thurs</span><span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_2106_2223" tabindex="0">day, Feb. 23, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Rosary at 7 p.m.</span>
