Mike Ward would have to resign District 300 seat if elected to the Du Quoin City Council

Illinois statutes now state that anyone living in a community with more than 2,500 residents cannot serve on two community boards or councils. That would mean that if Du Quoin commissioner candidate Mike Ward wins a seat on the council he will have to resign his seat as president of the Du Quoin Board of Education.

Ward said he doesn't relish facing that decision, but would likely take the city council seat and resign from the school board.

Ward's school board seat is not up for election until spring 2017. The board would have to fill the unexpired term. Ward said he would then back a school board candidate with the same sense of fiscal responsibility that he has.
