  • The Harrisburg High School volleyball team opened its season at home with a rousing start, knocking off cross county rival Eldorado 25-22, 16-25 and 25-17.
It was the first win for Harrisburg head coach Heather Cox as she said senior leadership, great serving and consistent passing made up for the matches ups and downs.
Whitney Younger went 23-for-23 on serving with four kills, while freshmen middle hitters Bryleigh Buchanan (8 kills) and Matty Hawkins (7 kills) protected the net through the game.
“It was a great effort from the entire team and a great opportunity to get a win against a scrappy Eldorado team,” Cox said. “We have a long way to go, but the ability and effort are there to have a great season.”
In the junior varsity contest, Harrisburg won in straight sets 25-12 and 25-15.
“Serving, communication and passes helped the girls win their first regular season game,” Cox said.
“The sophomore leadership from Jessica Schwartz and Toni Crisp led the way. It was a great effort and win for the team and coaches.”
