  • The Eldorado High School girls’ golf team started the season off on the right foot Monday, winning the Mt. Carmel 5-team match.
Eldorado edged out Mt. Carmel 174-177, while Herrin shot a 184. Carmi finished fourth with a 201 and Harrisburg finished fifth with a 222.
Individually, the Eagle duo of Ashton and Taylor Goodley finished first with Ashton winning on a scorecard playoff as each opened the year with a 37.
Eldorado head coach Greg Goodley said he was pleased with his team’s effort, adding that his girls got through some first match nerves and had a pretty good day.
Rounding out the scoring for Eldorado was Taylor Aldridge and Sydney Tate, who each shot a 50 and Keeley Tate finished with a 57, while Kileah Lowery added a 57.
Harrisburg was led by Alexa Burtis’ 45, while Skyler Street finished with a 50. Gabriella Tison carded a 55 and Nicole Taylor added a 72.
The Harrisburg boys’ golf team is off to a 3-0 start by winning the Mt. Carmel Invitational. The Bulldogs’ top four came in from second to seventh place (individually) to win by 11 strokes against home team.
Harrisburg finished with a 152, while Mt. Carmel was second with a 163. Carmi-White County added a 167 and Herrin finished with a 174.
For the Bulldogs, Patrick Bittle paced Harrisburg with a 37, followed by a 38 from Ryan Williams and Garrett Jenkins. Ben Fowler carded a 39, followed by a 49 from Bryce Beal and a 56 from Jacob Mills.
“Patrick Bittle was very steady in his first match of the year,” Harrisburg head coach Mike Tison said. “Ben and Ryan both missed a couple putts they could have made and Garrett had a great core for a sophomore. All-in-all, it was a good start for the team.”
