  • Ronnie Lee Crank, age 65 of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully at this home on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014.
    Ron was born on Oct. 6, 1948, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to the late James and Stella (Berry) Crank. He married Mary Griesedieck on May 9, 1981, and she survives.
    He started his career in law enforcement as a dispatcher for Saline County Sheriffs Department and then as deputy and later chief deputy under Sheriff Dutch Stafford. Ron was a Harrisburg police officer over 28 years then was elected as finance commissioner and later transitioned into the position of mayor. He loved giving back to his town.
    Ron enjoyed many activities and was a member of the motorcycle clubs: GWRRA, Chapter Q, Motorcyclist Touring Club and the Blue Knights Illinois Chapter XXII, Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. He was a member of the Harrisburg Masonic Lodge, Ham Radio Club and St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
    Survivors include his wife: Mary Crank of Harrisburg; a daughter: Amy and husband Robert Crow of Chestertown, Md.; and a son: Christopher Crank of Morgantown, W.Va.; two grandsons: Benjamin and Brody Crow; his mother-in-law: Marion Griesedieck of Belleville; and his sister-in-laws; and their husbands; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many, many friends.
    Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: JD Crank; and sister: Jo Ann Crank.
    Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Clyde Grogan Celebrating. Burial will be in Brushy Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8:00 PM, Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, with Masonic Rites at 2 p.m. and Knights of Columbus Chalice Service at 7 p.m. at Reed Funeral Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to Shop with a Cop or Donor’s Favorite Charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
