  • The grade schools are getting new paint and the high school is seeing tuck-pointing repairs as the Harrisburg schools gear up for a new school year.
At the West Side School, inmates from the Saline County Detention Center repainted the bathrooms and hallways earlier this summer and now the second grade classrooms have seen their walls painted a fresh white color.
“It has made the bathrooms, hallways and classrooms a little brighter,” said West Side Principal Kim Williams. “It used to be an off-yellow, now its a bit brighter for the kids.”
R & P Coating of Murphysboro is doing the classroom repainting.
At the Harrisburg High School, masonry repair and tuck pointing is ongoing.
On Monday, workers from Evans Mason of Springfield were hard at work, cutting sheet metal, applying new mortar and making minor brick repairs to the facade of the school.
