  • A handful of local linksters closed out the summer circuit in style.
    At the West Kentucky Open at Drake Creek Golf Course in Ledbetter, Ky., former Bulldog standout Alexander Tison shined.
    In the Amateur Division Third Flight, Tison placed second after firing a 82-77 159. Tison was knocked off by Benton’s Cory Smith, who finished in first place with a 83-74 157. Bryson Hammond of Metropolis finished in a tie for third with Mayfield’s Mitchell Grooms, who both shot a two-round total of 160.
    Also in the Third Flight, Harrisburg’s Ryan Williams placed 11th after firing a 83-87 170. In the Amateur Division First Flight Ben Fowler finished ninth after shooting a 76-83 159.
    A little closer to home, Alexa Burtis won the Southern Illinois Junior Golf Tournament Championship at Rend Lake Golf Course with an 18-hole total of 78. Burtis finished third in the total points race with 63.5 points. Marisa Ferguson was tops in the 16-18 Girls’ Division with 104.75 points, while Megan Gallatin was second with 62.25. On the season, Burtis played in five tournaments, placing first at Hamilton County, Kokopelli, Green Hills, (Mt. Vernon), Benton and Rend Lake.
    At the same event, Fowler finished in a tie for sixth after shooting a 79. Benton’s Andrew Simpson won the event with a 69 in the 16-18 Boys’ Division.
