  • George L. Voltz, age 83, Logansport, Ind., passed away peacefully in the care of Guardian Angel Hospice, surrounded by his family.

  • George L. Voltz, age 83, Logansport, Ind., passed away peacefully in the care of Guardian Angel Hospice, surrounded by his family.
    He died at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at his residence.
    Born June 30, 1931, in Harlin County, Ky., he was the son of Leslie S. and Rena Hicks Voltz.
    On Dec. 26, 1950, in Harrisburg, he married Mildred “R. “Millie” Estes, who preceded in death on July 14, 2008.
    George was retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant. He then was employed for 11 years at Radio Shack and owned and operated Logansport Shooters Supply, both in the Logansport Mall. For the last 14 years, George was a valued member of the Hendrickson Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM dealership in Monticello, Ind.
    During his military service he flew 35 missions in Korea as a radio ECM operator and 54 missions in Vietnam as a boom operator.
    George was a 1949 graduate of St. John’s Military Academy in Delafield, Wis.
    At one time he had been a Third Degree Mason in Lodge 101, Marquette, Mich.
    George was a founding member of the L’Anguille Practical Pistol League and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was a volunteer for Guardian Angel Hospice and for Memorial Hospital as an EMT, in Logansport. He had also taught CPR classes.
    George was a very active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Logansport, where over the years he served as Senior Warden, Junior Warden and on the Vestry.
    Surviving are two sons, George P. (Pamela Jean) Voltz and Wade Voltz (Mary Loucks), all of Logansport, Ind.; and a daughter, Leslie Lynn (Gary) Bever, Peru.
    Also surviving are grandchildren, Jason (Carly) Voltz, Ryan Voltz, Stephanie Voltz, Heather Voltz; a stepgrandson, Robert Bever; great-grandchildren, George S. Voltz, Amelia Jean Voltz, Derek Bever, and great-stepgrandsons, Henry Bever and Eliot Bever.
    A funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church. The date and time will be announced in August.
    Entombment will be in the Columbarium at Trinity Episcopal Church.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Trinity Episcopal Church, 319 Seventh Street, Logansport, Ind. 4694.
