  • Consider it a dress rehearsal for Lindsey Murray and the Harrisburg phenom has never looked better.
Murray took first place in the pole vault with a jump of 12-feet-4.5 at Sunday’s 2014 USATF Region 7 Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Huntington, Indiana.
The 2014 Harrisburg High School graduate now qualifies for the USA Junior Olympics which will be held July 21-27 in Humble, Texas.
The reigning Illinois Class 2A State Champion in the girls’ pole vault started off her summer by winning the USA Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Bloomington, Indiana, clearing 12-feet-9.5.
After Murray had won at the USA Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championships, she had her eyes set on Texas and the USA Junior Olympics.
“I definitely can’t wait,” Murray said. “ A lot of my family is in Texas, I love Texas, it’s something that I can’t explain, but I’m really looking forward to it.
“When I went last year, I knew I could place, but as far as expectations of winning, they weren’t there. This year, I want to win it all.”
Murray’s dreams were temporarily put on hold when she learned her efforts in Bloomington weren’t recognized by the governing bodies for the USA Junior Olympics, which landed her back in Indiana Sunday for qualifying.
“It was a nervous experience, as it usually always is, but I was very focused and have been leading up to this event,” Murray said. “I’ve put a lot of work in this week, not only to get me ready for this event, but to prepare myself for the Junior Olympics.”
