  • Saline County Sheriff’s Deputies are asking for the public’s help in finding a man believed to have assaulted a bicyclist with an all-terrain vehicle on the Harrisburg-Eldorado Bike Path July 1.
Rex Flahardy, Harrisburg, at about 3 a.m. was bicycling home to Harrisburg from his job as a driver for Hollywood Trucking on Airshaft Road, Eldorado.
He told deputies while on Airshaft Road he noticed a car on Trolley Road at U.S. Route 45. The car crossed the highway and drove toward him, Saline County Sheriff’s Investigator Mike Jones said.
Flahardy said the driver asked him why he was riding a bicycle at night and they got into an verbal altercation. He said the driver cursed at him and drove away.
Flahardy described the man as a male with short, brown hair, short mustache and goatee. He was driving a small, white, four-door car.
Flahardy biked west on the bike trail approaching Muddy when he saw the headlight of an all-terrain vehicle coming up from behind him. The ATV struck his bicycle, knocked him to the ground, backed up and struck his bike a second time, bending the bike’s wheel, Jones said.
The ATV driver then drove away toward Muddy. He did not see the driver of the ATV, but deputies believe the driver likely was the man in the white car he’d met earlier.
Flahardy immediately reported the incident to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver faces a charge of aggravated battery and other possible charges.
Anyone with information may contact the Saline County Sheriff’s Office at 252-8661.
