  • Harrisburg’s Cooper Thompson was recently named to the Illinois Baseball Coaches association First Team All-State.
The out-going junior led the Bulldogs this season with a .462 batting average, while driving in a team-high 31 RBIs.
“Cooper had an incredible junior season and is very deserving of this award,” Harrisburg head coach Jay Thompson said. “There were only three juniors that made the team and he was one of them. It’s a great feat for him.”
Also, last weekend, Thompson, along with brother Sykes Thompson and Matthew Phipps, played for Team Southern Illinois up north in Plainfield.
Phipps pitched both days, including one shutout inning each day and had a base hit. Sykes had a base hit each day, while Cooper had two hits in Team Southern Illinois’ game against the Catholic League.
