  • Independence Day brought one serious injury to a Harrisburg woman when a vehicle crashed into a ditch along state Route 145 in Independence Township.

  • Independence Day brought one serious injury to a Harrisburg woman when a vehicle crashed into a ditch along state Route 145 in Independence Township.
    At 5:42 p.m. Friday Kyle M. Day, 24, Carrier Mills, was driving a 2013 GMC Acadia north on state Route 145 about 800 feet south of Butler Road when he fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle, according to a release from Illinois State Police District 19.
    The vehicle left the road, struck a ditch, crossed the road and struck another ditch and came to rest.
    Passenger Stephanie L. Walker, 27, Harrisburg, was transported by Saline County Ambulance to Harrisburg Medical Center and then was taken by Air Evac to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind., with major injuries, according to a release from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office. Day was uninjured.
    Day was cited on charges of improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle and driving on a suspended license, according to the release.
    Saline County Sheriff’s Office, Harrisburg Police, Saline County Ambulance, Air Evac and Bishop’s Towing assisted with the call.
     
    Rollover
    Saline County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a one-car rollover accident on U.S. Route 45 North near Washington Road at the Saline and Gallatin County line at 2:37 p.m.
    Saline County Deputies responded to the accident along with Med-Force EMS and Gallatin County Officers. The call was handled by Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office. One person was taken to Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado with minor injuries. The Illinois State Police assisted with the accident.
    The sheriff’s office release did not include names of those in the vehicle.
     
    Lost at Garden of the Gods
    At 4:35 p.m. Saline County Central Dispatch received a 911 call of man lost near the Garden of the Gods in southeastern part of Saline County. Saline County deputies, U.S. Forest Service and Equality Fire Department responded to the area.
    The man, Glenn Haggard of French Lick, Ind., had walked down a trail from the observation area and then got off the path. Saline County 911 was able to continue to plot the caller and relay the coordinates to the responders to locate Haggard. Haggard was located at 5:31 p.m. and was uninjured.
