  • Youth Softball: SIJS Chic Division Champioships set for Monday

  • In the Southern Illinois Junior Softball League Chic Division (junior high age teams) that include Pope County, Hardin County, Galatia, Hamilton County, Carrier Mills, Gallatin County, Norris City and Eldorado, Carrier Mills scored 10 runs in the final frame to beat Gallatin County 18-16.
    Abby Whiting had two hits, two runs and two RBI, whileMacy Ward scored three times and Jordan Burnham was the winning pitcher for Carrier Mills.
    For Gallatin County, Kensley Odum scored three runs for the Hawks.
    In Game 2, Pope County knocked off Hamilton County (7th grade) 18-7.
    For Pope County, Emma Collier and Abby Clanton scored four runs and Keely Clay was the winning pitcher for Pope County.
    Sadie Rasor and Megan Bailey each scored twice for Hamilton County.
    In Game 3, Eldorado knocked off Galatia with Trinity Goolsby picking up the win in the circle for the Eagles.
    In Game 4, Hamilton County (8th grade) knocked off Carrier Mills 17-4.
    For Carrier Mills, Abby Whiting scored twice, while Gillian Bowers had two hits and scored three runs for Hamilton County. Corrie Grubb had three doubles with four RBI while picking up the win in the circle.
    In Game 5, Hardin County knocked off Norris City 17-5.
    Norris City was led by Lakien Veach and Natalie Wilson each scored a run, while Hardin County was led by Jessica Ratliff, who had two hits and scored twice. Melissa Winters scored three runs and was the winning pitcher for Hardin County.
    Monday’s semi final matchups are Hardin County vs. Eldorado at 5 p.m., followed by Hamilton County (8th grade) vs. Pope County.
    Winners will play for the championship at approximatley 8 p.m. at the Eldorado Sports Complex.
