Roger Young sentenced to 32 years

Roger D. Young, 63, Eldorado, was sentenced to 32 years imprisonment for solicitation of murder for hire of his wife.

Young was found guilty of the charge after an April 17 jury trial, according to a release from Saline County State's Attorney Mike Henshaw's office.

On March 31, 2012, an Illinois State Police Master Sergeant posing as a "hit man" met with Young after the ISP was notified of Young's intention to hire someone to murder his wife, Linda Young. During the course of the meeting Young expressed his desire to have his wife murdered, where to have her murdered and the amount of payment for the murder, $5,000 out of life insurance proceeds. Young paid the agent $100 to buy a firearm for the murder and the entire conversation was video and audio recorded with a court approved overhear, according to the release.

Between the time of Young's arrest and trial, Linda Young committed suicide.

Roger Young also faces three years mandatory supervised released, a $10,000 fine and costs. He will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence.

Assistant State's Attorney Jason A. Olson led the successful prosecution.
