  • The Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School baseball team secured their spot in Saturday’s Gallatin County regional championship with an 11-6 win over Crab Orchard.
Loren Whiting, Dalton Summers and Batson combined for the win, while the Wildcats pounded out 13 hits on the day at the plate.
“After an 11 day layoff we were more than rusty, but Brody Walker got us going with some big hits early and Jonah Crowder got a big one in the fifth to seal it for us,” head coach Allen Jackson said. “It wasn’t pretty but we’ll take it.”
The Wildcats (14-7) scored three runs in the first inning when Anthony Kaoldner tripled and Walker drove him in with a single. Whiting then singled, followed by Summers cranking out a two-run single.
Crab Orchard cut the lead to one, 2-3 in the top half of the second inning, but Carrier Mills-Stonefort responded with another three-run inning on the bottom half of the inning.
Walker delivered another single to score Kalodner. That was followed by Darren Betz blasting his 13th home run of the season.
Crab Orchard tacked on a run in the fourth, as did the Wildcats, when Kalodner scored on a throwing error.
But the Wildcats blew the game open with a three-run fifth on a Crowder two-run single, scoring Whiting and Summers.
Carrier Mills-Stonefort will play Gallatin County in Saturday’s title game. The Wildcats took two games from the Hawks earlier this season in regular season play.
