  • Prep Baseball: Gallatin County grabs win over Hardin County

  • The Gallatin County High School baseball team knocked off Greater Egyptian Conference foe Hardin County 9-2 to open Class 1A Regional play Wednesday.
    Tyler Crayne worked seven full innings for the Hawks, striking out a season-high 13.
    At the plate, Gallatin County was led by Marcus Wargel and Crayne, who each tallied two hits a piece. Crayne allowed two earned runs on seven hits, while walking none.
    The Hawks put up three runs in the first inning and tacked on a run in the fourth. Gallatin County then built a 8-0 lead with a four-run fifth inning and finished with a run in the sixth. Hardin County scored its two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
    Gallatin County will now play the winner of Carrier Mills-Stonefort/Crab Orchard Saturday in the championship game.
