  • Cooper Thompson’s two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning sparked a five-run frame and helped propel Harrisburg to its fifth straight win with a 10-3 victory over Anna-Jonesboro in prep baseball Monday afternoon at Dorris Heights.
Every batter in the HHS lineup had at least one hit for the Bulldogs, who pounded out 14 hits on the afternoon.
Thompson finished with three hits and drove in three. Senior Ryan Luce added three hits of his own and knocked in two runs.
Harrisburg (17-11) got two RBI’s from Brady Mayer while Brennan Street also drove in a run.
Blake Buchanan (4-3) worked into the fourth inning and struck out two. The senior southpaw allowed four hits and walked a batter.
Sophomore Bryce Emery tossed an inning-plus of scoreless relief, and Harrisburg also got scoreless innings from Aaron Johnson and Logan Boon.
Harrisburg improved to 11-2 at home with the victory. Dating back over the past month, HHS has had a six-game winning streak, followed by a five-game skid, which has now been followed up with five wins in a row.
Anna-Jonesboro (11-13) sophomore Isaac Pender suffered the loss over three innings of work.
The Bulldogs had lost an extra inning game to Anna-Jonesboro at O’Fallon in late March and could see the Wildcats again in the finals of the Carterville regional next weekend.
Weather permitting, HHS is set to host Hamilton County at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
