  • Bearcats win fourth straight GEC championship

  • The Galatia-Thompsonville softball team won their fourth straight Greater Egyptian Conference championship Thursday, knocking off Pope County 16-3 on the road.
    The Bearcats, now 20-2 overall and 11-0 in league play with one game to play, pounded out 20 hits against the Pirates.
    Galatia-Thompsonville scored in every inning and had six doubles on the day, one triple and two home runs.
    The long balls belonged to Lexi Johnson and Emily Reed. Johnson went deep first, finishing 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
    Reed, who’s birthday was Thursday, hit a two-out, two-run home run in the fifth inning to finish 3-for-5 on the day.
    Every Bearcat in the lineup had a hit, while Madison Fletcher went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Elizabeth Sloan, Larissa Bond, Katie Jones, and Kaelyn Watson all went 2-for-4, while Sloan drove in three runs and Bond had two RBI. Katie Linsley went 2-for-3 and Kylee Brown finished 1-for-4.
    Bond (10-2) picked up the win in the circle with a three-hitter. The senior right hander, struck out three, walked four and allowed one earned run.
    Galatia-Thompsonville is scheduled to play host to Pope County today (Friday), which will be Senior Day for Bond, Reed, Fletcher and Jones.
