  • In an effort to encourage more people to utilize the services of Harrisburg District Library, some old library fines are being waived.
Head Librarian Ruth Miller said the program that began last year is forgiving about $60,000 in outstanding fines.
“We are going back to the beginning of 1996, waiving fees and deleting our old records,” Miller said.
Fines incurred since 2010 remain in effect.
“We want the public to know if they have been avoiding the library because of fines from when they were kids, they probably don’t exist anymore,” Miller said.
As the library continues it effort of purging old records, the library has forgiven $12,000 in fines so far, Miller said.
