  • A fire was reported in the attic of a two story home at 400 N. Land Street in Harrisburg, 4:02 p.m. Saturday.
Harrisburg firefighters arrived on the scene at 4:05 p.m. and found the attic totally engulfed in flames. The firefighters attacked the fire from the second floor of the home. The cause is unknown and under investigation.
Firefighter Rick Mallady was on scene and said Sunday, “When the roof comes in like that you can’t leave anything to chance. You have to pull down the ceilings on the second floor and go through all the debris to prevent the fire from reigniting.”
The Fowler-Bonham Foundation has scheduled a meeting with the single mother and three children who occupied the residence. They were meeting Monday afternoon.
City Councilman Dale Fowler said Sunday evening, “We want to buy all the children new clothes so they can start the school year with a sense of pride. We want to help in any way we can with food and clothing.”
The foundation helps families throughout the Illinois delta, 12 counties at this point and they plan to add two more counties next year.
