  • Rita Bruce, 80, lifelong resident of Eldorado, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

  • Rita Bruce, 80, lifelong resident of Eldorado, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
    Rita was born July 4, 1933, in Eldorado to the late Garland and Lilian (Gore) Brown. She married Bernard Bruce who preceded her in death. Rita and Bernard were married 61 years. Rita was a homemaker and a member of the Raleigh Baptist Church. Rita’s main enjoyment throughout her life was spending time with her family, tending to her flowers, feeding the birds, and her favorite candy, Hershey's Kisses.
    She is survived by daughters, Robin (Tom) Myers of Eldorado, Guylene (Tom) Peebels of Carrier Mills; a son, Kevin Bruce of Texas; a brother, Philip (Ollie) Brown of Eldorado; a sister, Joann (Joe) Ward of Fla.; four sisters-in-law, Donna Brown of Galatia, Christie Brown of Harrisburg, Wanda Brown of Du Quoin, Kathleen Brown of California; grandchildren, Aimee (Ryan) Sparrow of Ridgway, Ryan (Caliegh Griffin) Bruce of Eldorado, Andrew (Kendrea) Myers of Eldorado, Kasey (Josh) Konneker of Benton, Kyle Myers of Eldorado, Alex Peebels of Carrier Mills, Sharon Bruce of Florida, Tiffany Bruce of Florida, Jamie Bruce of Florida; great-grandchildren, Hanna Marie Sparrow, Jack Bruce, Mason Myers and Tucker Bruce.
    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven Bruce; five brothers, Clem Brown, James Brown, Roy Brown, Clarence Brown, John Brown; and two sisters, Dorothy Hutchinson and Charleen Martin.
    Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with Dr. David Pinkerton officiating. Burial will be in Adkin Cemetery in Omaha. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. In addition to flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Raleigh Baptist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
