  • Harrisburg wins pair of games over weekend at Pleasant Plains

    PLEASANT PLAINS — The Harrisburg High School baseball team got back on the winning track, picking up a pair of wins at the Pleasant Plains Invitational over the weekend.
    The Bulldogs (5-5) grabbed a 10-0 win over Luther North (Chicago) and shut out Nokomis 12-0 Friday.
    In the win against Luther North, Ryan Luce picked up the win, going three innings, allowing two hits and walking two, while striking out four.
    Aaron Johnson, Logan Boon and Sykes Thompson all came on in relief over the next four innings, combining for a three hitter and walked three.
    At the dish, Harrisburg roped out 11 hits as Nick Davis, Noah Vallette and Luce all went 2-for-3. Luce knocked in a pair of runs, while Davis had an RBI. Vallette scored two runs.
    Bryce Emery went 2-for-2 with two RBI’s and a run scored, while Matthew Phipps, Sykes Thompson and Brennan Street all had a hit.
    Cooper Thompson scored two runs, while Sykes Thompson, Boon and Street all scored one.
    Harrisburg 12, Nokomis 0
    The Bulldogs busted out 11 hits again, making short work on Nokomis Friday in Springfield.
    Sykes Thompson, Cooper Thompson, Luce and Batts all had two hits, but Sykes Thompson drove in a team-high five RBIs. The other hree had two RBI’s. Batts scored two runs and Cooper Thompson scored one, while Davis, Phipps and Vallette all had a hit.
    Phipps picked up the win for Harrisburg on the bump, going five innings in a no-hit effort as he struck out five and walked one.
    Harrisburg is slated to host Murphysboro today (Monday) at 4:30 p.m., followed by a SIRR Ohio game Tuesday at Herrin. The Bulldogs will travel to Massac County Wednesday and will play at West Frankfort on Thursday. After a day off on Friday, the Bulldogs are scheduled to play at Marion, Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
