Allan L. Faulkner, age 65 of Dixon Springs, passed away Jan. 14, 2014, at his residence.
He was born May 8, 1948, in Carbondale, to Walter and Alice Faulkner. He was raised in the Dixon Springs area. In his early years, Allan and his sister, Donnah, spent a lot of time at the Dixon Spring pool, which their parents ran at the time.
Allan graduated from Pope County High School in 1966. At the age of 19, he began working at Martin Oil Company in Metropolis and then went to work at Caterpillar until he was drafted into the Army in 1968. He served in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic until 1970. When he returned from Vietnam, he was hired at the Vienna Correctional Center in 1971 and retired in 1998 as a Lieutenant. In November 1984, Allan married Marilyn (Cunningham) Faulkner, and they reside in the Dixon Springs area near his parent’s residence. Allan was a member of the United Methodist Church and VFW Post 1145, both located in Eddyville. His hobbies included metal detecting, woodworking, fishing, car shows and riding his motorcycle.
Allan is survived by his wife, Marilyn Faulkner of Dixon Springs; two daughters from a previous marriage, Melissa Ann and (Bo) Turbeville, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Jennifer Lee (Farron) Sims of Marion; three grandchildren, Karlie Turbeville, Luke Turbeville, Zachary Sims; sister, Donnah Simmons of Lenox; nephew, Paul Simmons and many other special family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Colby Lee; brother-in-law, Ron Simmons; and aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 19, 2014, at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville. Interment will follow at New Home Cemetery in Eddyville. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 18, 2014, at the funeral home.
