Mary Ellen Abney, 96, resident of Eldorado, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Mary was born March 24, 1917, in Stonefort to the late Frank Lawson and Mary Ethel (Lind) Gunter. She married Clinsie “Red” Abney who preceded her in death in 1979. Mary was a LPN and worked 13 years at the Alton State Hospital and later for 27 years at Ferrell Hospital. It was her delight to assist in delivering babies. Mary was a member of the Eldorado First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbie (Lewis “Boco”) Densch of Eldorado; a son, Gregory (Linda) Abney of Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandchildren, Nathan (Megan) Densch of Ridgway, Amanda (Jeremy) Pearce of Harrisburg; a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Densch; and a great-stepgranddaughter, Ashton Pearce.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Gunter, Carl Gunter; a half brother, William Coleman; and a half sister, Flossie Masters.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with Pastor John Cross and Rick Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Eldorado First United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
