  • Saline County Sheriff's Office has lost a 9-year veteran of the force.
Bradley Charles Neal, died of natural causes Sunday, Dec. 8 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind., where he had been a patient since Friday.
Prior to working full time for the sheriff's office Neal had worked in a cooperative position between the sheriff's office and Saline County Housing Authority, hired to that position by former Sheriff Ed Miller.
Sheriff Keith Brown said Neal served in a special capacity, primarily investigating cases through technology as the department's Statewide Terrorism Information Center officer — one of two such centers in Southern Illinois, the other being in Carbondale.
"Brad mostly worked behind the scenes as an officer. Most people didn't see him," Brown said.
    His contribution was significant.
"Brad served as an analyst of information transferred from our area to the Statewide Information Center. He worked with electronics, telephones and social media," Brown said.
Neal had training other officers do not have. One of his duties would have been to analyze computers seized in drug cases once a search warrant was issued.
As a law enforcement officer Neal was out of the public eye, but did enjoy being seen performing on stage with his daughter, Brianna as the duo Brad and Bri. They performed folk and gospel at area festivals. He is also survived by his wife, Mary Anne and sister, Kathy Neal.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a law enforcement walk-through at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
