  • The one thing Greg Goodley wanted to see this year was improvement.
If the fourth place finish was any indicator then the Eldorado High School girls' golf coach goes into the postseason a happy man.
After a fifth place finish at the Illinois High School Class A Girls State Golf Tournament a year ago, the Eagles moved up one spot to finish fourth in 2013.
Nashville took the overall team title, while Rochester and Massac County rounded out the top three spots.
Eldorado finished 40 strokes off the lead set by Nashville, who won their first Class A title, but Eagle junior Ashton Goodley found herself atop the leader board, placing ninth overall with a 157.
Twin sister, Taylor tied for 22nd with a 166 over two days at Red Tail Run Golf Course.
"I'm proud of the girls," Goodley said. "They worked hard to get back to state, which is a great accomplishment. Ashton and Taylor did a great job of carrying a big load for us this year. I'm very proud of the way they handled the pressure of being our leaders on the course. They're a great pair."
Taylor Aldridge shot a 180, tying her for 45th overall, while Sam Mings, the lone senior on the team, fired a 201 to finish in a tie for 83rd.
"Sam,leaves the team by getting the honor of playing on the last day of the season and I couldn't be happier for her," Goodley said. She worked hard all year and gave us her best.
"Taylor Aldridge gave us some good scores through the post season and has been a constant in our top 4 and has been a positive score all year."
Goodley couldn't show enough praise for a team that qualified for the state tournament for a second straight season. Mings' departure is the only loss for a squad that Goodley hopes will be just as good nex season.
"Reagan Gray Jacqlyn Artman. Kilegh lowery showed much improvement through the year and will need to fill the vacant spot by graduation."
